GREETINGS FROM NORWICH, VT AND POLSON, MONTANA
I was born and raised in Hanover, NH loving books, drawing, music, maps, and dogs. My great aunt, Marcia Dalphin II, was a children’s book librarian and editor in Rye, NY. She supplied me with illustrated fairy tales and her own edited story books. I copied drawings and paintings and tried to make my own paint from tree sap and plants.
My dad read me classics, adventure and fantasy, Burroughs, London, Verne, Clarke, and Kipling. I devoured Nancy Drew, The Hardy Boys, all the Edward Eager books, and any dog story I could find. Reading and drawing were my escape when at age 10, my life spiraled forward with a single mom.
MUSIC, WRITING AND TEACHING
Today, following several delightful careers: mapmaking, environmental studies, regional planning, marketing communications, motherhood twice, and most recently teaching music and all subjects in Kindergarten and Fourth Grade, I’m pursuing a lifelong dream of creating children’s books.
ART AND DESIGN
I love drawing with pen and ink from many years of cartography and drawing comics for newsletters. Crosshatching with colored pencil is a favorite for a softer look. Most recently I’ve enjoyed watercolor and digital art in Procreate. Coursework at Dartmouth College, Lebanon College, Ava Gallery, the Children’s Book Academy, and Mark Mitchell’s children’s book illustration in drawing, watercolor, water based oils, and in Procreate has added to the fun.
THE WRITING COMMUNITY
How amazing is this community of SCBWI creators, agents, editors, critique partners, and 12×12 and CBA folks, all helping in the journey? Thanks for coming along.
